Roles and Responsibilities

It is important to decide at the outset of a recruitment and selection campaign, who will be involved in the process.

Consideration must be given to the following:

  • Who is the recruiting manager (this is generally the line manager for the post being recruited to and will be referred to in the advert)?
  • Who will assist the recruiting manager during the process (in some cases administrative support is required and usually sourced within the respective school/department)?
  • Who will respond to enquiries about the vacancy?
  • Who will liaise with People and OD?
  • Who will be involved at short listing stage?
  • Who will be involved in the interview/selection process?
  • Why have these people been selected?
  • The various roles and responsibilities of all involved.
  • What training have those involved undertaken?
  • What range of collective skills and knowledge is required to implement the process effectively from start to finish?

Recruitment and selection campaigns are owned by recruiting managers who, at any stage of the process, can seek advice and guidance from HR Services at:

  • Email: People-Od.Operations@manchester.ac.uk

or by contacting their local People and OD Partner.

Please note that no individual is allowed to participate in any selection process where they have a close personal, family or external business relationship with any applicants under consideration for appointment to that post.
