Development Planning

Any organisation that wants to stay relevant or recognised needs to be constantly changing and adapting within its environment. This means that employees need to be adapting and learning to deal with these changes too. As a learning institution, we also strive to develop a learning culture that embeds professional development into the heart of what we do. This will in turn lead to continuous improvement across the University.

We also recognise that having the opportunity to learn and grow is a key driver for employee engagement, and therefore productivity. In order to support this growth, we want a learning culture that is individual-centred and supported with the appropriate resources, providing people with access to appropriate learning initiatives to enable their personal development and career goals.

Personal development plans

Personal Development Plans (PDP) exist to help you and your employees to identify their learning or development needs. These plans will be varied to reflect the needs and learning styles of each person. Research shows that the majority of an individual’s learning and development occurs on the job and not in the training room; and their plans should reflect this. Following a development discussion with your employee, please ensure employees record their development objectives as part of the Performance and Development Review (P&DR) process.
