Library Experience

About the team

Frontline Enquiry and Support service

We are often the first point of contact for anyone wanting to use the library. It’s our role to connect people with the collections, service and support that they require. Enquiries can come to us in person, over LibChat, via tickets, over the phone or on social media.

Membership

As well as students we have many external users who use our facilities. We create library accounts and manage access for many groups including:

  • Students from other Universities (via the SCONUL Access scheme)
  • College Students
  • University Alumni
  • Members of the public
  • People from affiliated institutions (such as Nazarene Theological College)
  • Asylum seekers (through the City of Sanctuary scheme)

We also process SCONUL applications from UoM students who wish to use other University libraries.

Pick from shelf/Reservation Processing

If someone wants to ensure a book is waiting for them when they arrive, they can do this through the Click and Collect service. Each day we collect and process books across all our library sites. We also ensure that any uncollected reservations return to our collection

Safe Pod

The Safe Pod is a secure environment for researchers to access highly sensitive information. We manage all visiting researchers who wish to use the Safe pod. This involves providing inductions and supporting researchers during their visit.

Accessibility Support

We implement the front-line support recommendations from DASS for anyone who requires accessibility support. We undertake inductions and tailor the content to each individual and highlight the facilities and services we can provide that can assist them during their studies. We ensure that we provide administrative support for extended loans and collecting items from the shelves.
