Research security update – BioSyn

25 Apr 2024

Colleagues working in this area may need to carry out further due diligence – full information

As hubs of cutting-edge research, our University must remain vigilant when it comes to protecting sensitive information and research from potential misuse which could pose significant threats to national security.

BioSyn is a new area of research that now falls under the concerns of the end-user controls within Export Controls. This means we need to update the process around BioSyn in the University.

All researchers working with foreign-owned biotechnology companies or with kits from these companies, such as BGI, must contact the Regulatory Compliance team to request due diligence checks on those projects. This includes projects involving human samples being shipped abroad or results from analysed human samples being transferred to these companies.

Please submit your request using the online request form

If you have any queries, contact the team by email on regulatory.compliance@manchester.ac.uk.
