Library Leadership Team (LLT) principles and Working Together charter

Library Leadership Team high level principles

  • View all our decision-making and actions through the lens of equity, diversity and inclusion and model supportive and respectful behaviours.
  • Inform strategic development and work with Library Executive Team to achieve our collective ambitions.
  • Provide oversight of operations and Library-wide groups and take responsibility for cross Library policy and service development.
  • Facilitate the flow of information and actions between Library Executive Team, Directorate Management Teams and Library Leadership Team.
  • Serve as a catalyst for continuous improvement by being open to ideas, identifying opportunities, recognising when something needs to change and setting Library-wide priorities accordingly.
  • Take a collegial approach when considering ideas and potential solutions by providing opportunities for staff to work together.

Library Management Group Advisors

  • Recognised as a sector expert in an Imagine2030 Lead Priority Area. Initially we require expertise in the following areas although this may change in response to our strategic objectives and in areas we wish to develop:
    • Collections
    • Digital Library
    • Research
    • Community Engagement
    • Special Collections
    • Digital Scholarship
    • Student Voice
  • Provide advice and guidance at a strategic level to all members of Library Management Group on their specialist area.
  • Represent their area at a senior level on University and sector bodies.
  • Bring strategic information and wider context to Library Management Group.

Valued services / Creative people

  • We will take responsibility for staff learning and development to ensure we continue to provide world leading services.
  • We will encourage all Library colleagues to approach us with ideas for improvements to services.
  • We will take ownership of actions to improve Library-wide services.
  • We will proactively look for opportunities to improve Library-wide services.
  • We will use our operational plan to make improvements to our services and make it available to all teams.
  • We will provide a link from Library operations to Imagine2030.
  • We will establish requirements for new data to monitor the effectiveness of the Library and use the results to improve our services.
  • We will work to ensure our services are as sustainable as possible and reduce our environmental impacts.

Technology

  • We will use Teams to communicate and update all Library colleagues on our work and Library priorities.

Communication and collaboration

  • We will work with all colleagues on the Library Management Group to deliver our shared Imagine2030 vision.
  • We will look for opportunities to share our work with all Library colleagues and with external stakeholders.
  • We will work collaboratively with colleagues in Professional Services and Faculties to deliver our shared priorities.
  • We will utilise existing networks to communicate and improve our services (eg. Staff Management Forum, Directorate Management Teams).

Inclusion

  • We will work to eliminate barriers to entry and progression to the Library and its services.
  • We will provide oversight and leadership to the Library EDI group, taking collective responsibility for the achievement of our aims.
  • We will manage our discussions and interactions in a way which is inclusive for all participants.

Wellbeing

  • We will be an exemplar for Library teams by accessing and promoting wellbeing initiatives.
  • We will support each other and work in a collegial way.
  • We will provide support to the Wellbeing Group to set priorities and access funding.

Ways of working

  • Through our oversight and leadership of Library-wide groups we will take ownership of the delivery of impactful Library-wide change.
  • We will trial formal Library Leadership Team meetings to alternate between online and face-to-face (currently all online).
  • We will maintain an overview of ideas/projects from all Directorate Management Teams and Library teams.
  • We will work collaboratively with Library Executive Team to deliver our shared Imagine2030 vision.
  • We will make every effort to attend working together days wherever we are able to.
  • We will recognise when an issue has strategic potential or a Library-wide impact and develop solutions.
  • We will contribute to roundtables and own any resultant actions.
  • We will hold working together days at various Library sites.
  • We will make connections and be a central point for Library staff to approach with ideas and issues.
  • We will share agendas for formal meetings and working together days in advance so Library Leadership Team members and Library Management Group Advisors can decide when to attend.
