Save 10% at Food on Campus outlets, how to save at supermarkets, discounts, free Will writing, the staff survey and a focus on dementia

Food in advance

Don’t forget to call in at our FoodonCampus outlets on campus. You can get 10% discount through FoodInAdvance. This means you can easily register and load your Staff ID card online and receive 10% discount each time you make a purchase at a FoodonCampus outlet! The following outlets will be open Monday to Friday for eat-in and takeaway hot & cold drinks, snacks, fresh lush bakes, lunch deals and more!

Be Active

The University has hundreds of different opportunities to get involved in sport and activities to get you more active. You can sign up for the eight-week Be Active exercise classes. You can enjoy sessions in the Wellbeing Rooms (Simon Building), Sugden Centre and Aquatics Centre. There is also one to one support and a Physio Clinic based at The Armitage Sports Centre.

Purple Wave

There is still time to sign up to take part in this year's Great Manchester Run and be part of the University's Purple Wave!

In these difficult times where we are all trying to cope with extra expenses, it is helpful being able to save where you can on day to day shopping, home and essentials and family activities. With Vivup you can currently save between 4-7% with instant eVouchers at Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury, Waitrose, Marks and Spencer and Morrisons.  

If you haven’t already registered with Vivup, visit vivup.co.uk and simply register with your university or personal email address. You will need to enter your employee/payroll number when registering - you can find this on your payslip online or front of your staff ID card.

You can also access locally negotiated offers via UniDiscounts that include national deals with Hotpoint, Cotswold Outdoor, Runners Need and much more.

Free Will writing

It’s important at any age to create a Will to ensure your loved ones are looked after and any pension and be directed to your nominated person. Make sure the University Pensions Team know your wishes by completing a nomination form. Dunham McCarthy is a member of the ‘Institute of Professional Will Writer’s' and aim to encourage people to make their Will at a younger age. In order to achieve this they work with authorities, charities, NHS trusts, schools and Universities by providing an entirely free Will drafting service. Staff survey

The all-staff survey is now live and will run until the 17th May. Check your email inbox for a message from People Insight that links to the survey. The University will use your responses to make decisions so it’s important that as many people take part to ensure a better representation of views. For every survey completed, the University will support Eden Reforestation Projects!

Wellbeing – Focus on Dementia

Dementia is an overall term that describes a group of symptoms associated with a decline in memory or other thinking skills severe enough to reduce a person's ability to perform everyday activities. Alzheimer's disease accounts for 60 to 80% of cases. If you visit the wellbeing resources you will find signposting for dementia. Many people living with dementia may want to continue working. You can also read about your rights in the workplace and how to talk to your manager about your dementia diagnosis so that you can be given the right support.

If you are a carer for someone with dementia (or any other condition) there is a Staff With Caring Responsibilities Peer Support Group that you can join and share experiences.

Our nationally commended payroll giving scheme is also available for any member of staff who wishes to donate to a charity that supports those living with dementia or any other causes. A monthly gift of £10 from your take-home pay to your chosen charity will be automatically boosted, at no cost to you, to £12.50 for a 20% rate tax payer and £16.66 for a 40% rate tax payer. This means your charity receives your enhanced donation and doesn't have to chase Gift Aid. As donations are reducing for charities - every extra penny does count.

The video below discusses some of the issues that black communities face in relation to dementia. This includes high prevalence of cardiovascular disease, myths and stigma attached to the condition and a lack of culturally sensitive dementia services.
