Engaging our Communities support fund 2019/20

Up to £2000 to support Faculty community engagement initiatives, creating new partnerships or enhancing existing ones.

Applications for the 2019/20 round are now closed. 

Social Responsibility in the Curriculum Funding Call 2019/20 (apply by 1 November 2018)

Up to £2000 to enable socially responsible graduates through innovative curriculum enhancement

External funding opportunities

The following funding opportunities are available throughout the year

Biochemical Society, Scientific Outreach Grants

Submission deadlines are in September and April.
Maximum award: £1,000

Grants are available to assist with the event costs and expenses for outreach events which promote molecular bioscience to young people and the community.

British Pharmacological Society, Engagement Grants

The main grant is awarded annually, and applications for the seed-fund are open year-round. 
Maximum award: £1,500 for the main award and £250 for the seed-fund

This grant supports innovative projects to engage the public with pharmacology.

British Society for Immunology, Communicating Immunology Grants

Grants are awarded quarterly.
Maximum award: £1,000

Funding is available for engagement activities that stimulate interest, discussion and understanding of immunology amongst a wider audience, particularly traditionally less engaged with groups.

European Society for Evolutionary Biology, Outreach Fund

Submission deadlines are on 15 March and 15 September.
Award: €1,000-1,500

This fund supports educational initiatives that improve the public understanding of evolution globally. This includes public outreach seminars and public exhibitions.

Medical Research Council, Public Engagement in Science Activities - Seed fund

Applications are open year-round.
Award: typically £300 - £5,000

MRC-funded scientists are eligible to apply for funds to pilot and develop innovative engagement activities.

Medical Research Council, Festival Establishment Award

Grants are awarded annually in preparation for the MRC Festival of Medical Research.
Maximum award: £1,500

All MRC-funded units, centres and institutes participating in the MRC Festival of Medical Research are entitled to an award of up to £1,500 to help cover activity costs.

Microbiology Society, Education and Outreach Grants

Submission deadlines are on 1st April and 1st of October.
Maximum award: £1,000

Grants are available for educational outreach activities to promote public engagement with microbiology.

Physiological Society, Public Engagement Grants

Applications can be submitted year-round, with biannual funding rounds.
Maximum award: £5,000

Both members and non-members can apply for funding for projects which promote the discussion of physiology with public audiences.

Society for Applied Microbiology, Public Engagement Grant

Applications are open year-round.
Maximum award: £3,000

Funding is available for events which promote microbiology to the public and other relevant stakeholders. This grant is open to both society members and non-members. Society members should have no funding from any additional source. The award is open year-round, but events must start at least six-weeks after the application submission.

Society for Endocrinology, Public Engagement Grant

Grants are awarded biannually. 
Maximum Award: £1,000

Funding is available for outreach activities which are aimed at school children and/or the wider public and engage them with hormones and the impact of endocrinology. Grants are available to society members or public engagement professionals who can be paired with a society member prior to application.

The Royal Society of Biology, Regional Grant Scheme

Awarded biannually
Maximum award: £200 for small grants and £500 for full grants

Individual members of the Royal Society of Biology are eligible to apply for funding towards event costs for a public engagement event in their region.

The Royal Society of Biology, Partnership Grants

Awarded annually
Maximum award: £3,000 

Partnership grants are awarded to schools to enable them to buy equipment for a STEM investigation project in partnership with a STEM professional.
