BMH Building User Groups
For each building used by staff and students across FBMH, dedicated Building User Groups (BUGs) are in place to provide a collaborative forum for Building Users, Student Representatives and Estates and Facilities to work in partnership and discuss issues that matter most to them and find a resolution to building wide issues.
What are BUGs?
BUGs provide a forum for building representatives to:
- Keep up to date with developments, estates projects, and planned works that impact their building
- Provide building occupants updates on upcoming events or activities such as Opens Days or Seminar Showcases taking place within our buildings
- Raise suggestions and identify emerging or ongoing issues
- Share user experiences and insights
- Explore practical solutions to emerging and ongoing issues and drive improvements within buildings
They are a key mechanism for ensuring that building operations reflect the needs of those who use them every day.
Have your say
We actively encourage feedback from all staff and students.
The BUGs Feedback Form can be used to raise:
- Persistent or ongoing building issues
- Accessibility requirements not currently being met
- Health and safety concerns
- Suggestions for improvements
👉 Submit your feedback using the BUGs Feedback Form
All feedback is reviewed and used to shape BUG meeting agendas. Outcomes and updates are then shared following each meeting, ensuring that issues raised are responded to and, where possible, acted upon.
1. Report Estates issues such as building defects/faults through the Estates Helpdesk.
2. Report accidents, incidents and near misses using the combined reporting form.

BUG meetings are typically held quarterly (subject to member availability).

Why your engagement matters
BUGs rely on input from building users to be effective. By providing feedback or engaging with your local representative, you help to:
- Improve the quality and safety of your working environment
- Ensure issues are identified and addressed early
- Influence how building spaces and facilities are managed
- Support compliance with safety and operational standards
We encourage all staff and students to engage with the BUG process and use the feedback form to ensure your voice is heard.
For further information on how to join your local BUG, please contact your local School Operations team, or FBMH Estates team - christopher.mcgreavy@manchester.ac.uk and ciaran.pook@manchester.ac.uk.
