Become a Manchester Momentum coach – applications now open!

17 Sep 2025

Applications are now open for PS and academic staff to become coaches on Manchester Momentum.

Applications are now open for PS and Academic staff to become coaches on Manchester Momentum, the University’s one-to-one coaching programme for second-year undergraduate students of Black, Pakistani and Bangladeshi heritage.

Delivered with GRIT, the programme helps students build confidence, strengthen academic skills, and feel a stronger sense of belonging. It also contributes to reducing awarding gaps, in line with the University’s Access and Participation Plan (2025–2029).

What does coaching involve?

Coaches meet students over the academic year for one-to-one sessions, offering guidance, encouragement, and a space to reflect and set goals. You don’t need all the answers - just the willingness to support students in their growth.

Why get involved?

Coaching is a two-way experience. Students gain clarity and confidence, while staff often develop stronger communication skills, deeper empathy, and renewed purpose.

Time commitments

  • Introductory Admin Session with the Manchester Momentum Team (2 October 2025, 4-5pm)
  • Pre-course 20-minute phone call with GRIT (26 September or 1 October 2025, slots available between 9am-4pm)
  • 2 full days of GRIT coaching training (7 and 8 October 2025, 9.30am-5pm)
  • Be What You See Active Bystander Training (27 November 2025, 10am-1pm)
  • Launch Event (Wednesday 3 December, 4-5pm)
  • A minimum of six 1 hour coaching sessions throughout the academic year
