Re-opening of the McDougall Prayer Hall

17 Jan 2022

Following some recent access issues, the prayer hall will re-open on Monday 17 January

Over recent months, you will be aware of some challenges in accessing the McDougall Prayer Hall. This has been caused by a problem with some IT infrastructure in a separate building, meaning a broken link to the database which allows access into the building. We wanted to get in touch to talk you through what we’ve been doing to fix the problem and allow much better access over the coming months.

The prayer hall will re-open at 7am on Monday 17 January, and will open between the hours of 7am and 8pm Monday to Friday. We hope that will enable as many of you as possible to access the space at the times you need. Until the card swipe access is fixed, we have put in place a door code lock system which you will need to enter the building. The current codes to access are:

  • Male Entrance: C2567X
  • Female Entrance: C2368Z

From Monday 24 January, these codes will be changed and the new codes are available for University staff and students to access, here:

To be able to maintain access at the agreed times, we’ll need your co-operation in ensuring you leave the space at the closing time (which will change as prayer times get later in the coming months). All current COVID restrictions remain in place, so please make sure you are wearing masks and not attending if you have symptoms or a positive test.

In addition to the re-opening of the prayer facilities, we are excited to be able to announce a new project to look at prayer facilities across the campus. We have heard loud and clear from students and staff over recent years that more distributed spaces across campus would be helpful to you. A stakeholder group of Muslim staff and students will be brought together very soon to start shaping these spaces. Please look out for further announcements.

We thank you for your patience and support in relation to McDougalls, and we will make sure to keep you updated as the repairs and opening hours progresses.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Muslim chaplain Mohammed Ullah at mohammed.ullah@manchester.ac.uk
