Alliance Manchester Business School has partnered with South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to launch senior leader master’s degree apprenticeships as part of the Trust’s extensive workforce development programme.
The senior leader apprenticeships, which are being funded via the Trust’s payments to the Apprenticeship Levy, will begin in January 2020, supporting over 35 of its future leaders through health-focused MSc Management Practice and Global MBA courses.
Healthcare managers face a constant battle to balance excellent clinical care with effective operational performance. Developing leaders who can successfully engage staff will improve organisational culture and put teams in a better place to improve services and processes. Strong leadership, combined with clinical and managerial expertise, is critical to the future of the NHS.
Senior leader apprenticeship programmes are carefully crafted to provide the knowledge, skills and behaviours required from a strategic leader. Learning is focused through practical work-based projects and academic modules, equipping accidental managers with the confidence to make decisions that meet both clinical and managerial demands.
Jennie Winnard, Director of Operations, Education, Research and Innovation at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said: “South Tees is delighted to have formed a partnership with Alliance Manchester Business School. Change within the NHS is constant - providing our managers with the ability to develop and change practice and so improve our patient care via leadership development is a top priority for us.
The courses offered via Alliance MBS give our staff the opportunity to work together with a world class university.”
Dr David Lowe, Programme Director, MSc Management Practice, explains, “Alliance MBS has worked with the NHS for over fifty years so we understand the issues and challenges that those working in healthcare face.
The MSc Management Practice is different to many other senior leader master’s degree apprenticeships as we can incorporate two industry-relevant modules into the programme structure. This is important for a sector like healthcare which faces unique challenges.”
Alliance MBS’s Global MBA is one of only a few MBA programmes officially endorsed by the NHS Leadership Academy.
Xavier Duran Martinez, MBA Programmes Director, comments, “We’re delighted to be working with South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to provide this fantastic development opportunity for its managers and aspiring leaders – using the Apprenticeship Levy to access the Global MBA and MSc Management Practice at the University of Manchester.”
As a registered provider of senior leader master’s degree apprenticeships, Alliance Manchester Business School can help organisations make effective use of their apprenticeship levy payments both on an individual basis in the multi-organisational cohorts and via tailored closed cohorts for groups of students from one organisation.
Alliance MBS collaborates with a wide range of organisations, including the NHS, BAE Systems and Audi UK, on a diverse range of programmes that gear them up for the future.
