The Institute of Teaching and Learning has announced the winners of the Teaching Excellence Awards for 2023 and the Library’s Student Team was named winner in the Team category.

The panel commented “The Library Student Team are a perfect example of inclusion, co-creation and collaboration. The volume and scope of your work is extraordinary, providing vital resources and support (right down to thoughtfulness about providing suitable snacks!) for students and their learning.  Your submission described a dedicated, experienced, highly-skilled and wholly professional team whose work and attitude are a valuable asset to the University's teaching and learning culture.”

They also recommended that the Team consider putting themselves forward for the Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) in the future.

Dave Hirst has also been highly commended as an individual for his work on the Digital Society UCIL unit.  The panel commented on his important work on co-creation and the student voice, demonstrating both good value and impact, which received excellent student feedback. The panel acknowledged that, whilst the direct reach is limited to those students taking this one UCIL unit, it had been designed in such a highly accessible way. The unit helps inform the wider strategic vision for online and blended learning going forward.

Teaching Excellence award winners will be celebrated at an event in September led by April McMahon, VP for Teaching, Learning and Students.
