Further Hebrew and Persian manuscripts added to Manchester Digital Collections

20 May 2022

Two major manuscript cataloguing projects have released over a hundred further items on Manchester Digital Collections.

Qazwini's Wonders of Creation

Digitised by the John Rylands Research Institute and Library’s renowned Imaging team, the items include rich metadata informed by generously-funded research.

About the manuscripts

Our Persian Manuscripts collection now contains seventy-nine complete manuscripts, including some of the Library’s most important treasures from Iran and the broader Persianate world. Spanning seven centuries, the texts encompass a vast range of subject areas, from prayer-books and works on Sufism, to literary prose and medicine. Led by Professor Alan Williams (Professor of Iranian Studies and Comparative Religion), the volumes have been expertly described by Research Associate Jake Benson.

Over fifty new manuscripts have also been added to our Hebrew Manuscripts collection as part of an ongoing project led by Professor Philip Alexander, with expert catalogue descriptions by Research Associate Dr Zsófia Buda, developed from previous work by Professor Alexander Samely and Dr Stefania Silvestri.
