Manchester Pride plus share your views in the Stonewall Survey

10 Sep 2021

All staff members are encouraged to complete the survey

Manchester Pride 2021

One way in which we can all contribute to measuring and improving LGBT+ equality is by participating in the Stonewall survey which is part of our Workplace Equality Index Submission.

All staff members are encouraged to complete this short, confidential survey – the more responses we get, the more accurate our results will be, enabling us to direct budgets and activities accordingly:

Manchester Pride

It’s already been two weeks since we saw Manchester Pride activities in our city and once again our University was able to participate, despite the restrictions faced!

A lunchtime discussion was held in conjunction with Salford University.  Introduced by Dr Rachel Cowen (EDI academic lead for gender and sexual orientation) participants talked about the challenges still faced by HEI to ensure full inclusion for all LGBT+ people.

With the parade taking on a different format we were unable to participate in this, but we still ensured the public knew about the fantastic inclusive environment our University offers for LGBT+ staff and students by having a small stall containing info and giveaways, with the chance to chat to ALLOUT members about being LGBT+ and working or studying at the University.

Banji Adewumi, Director of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, said: “Joining as the new EDI Director, I was delighted to learn how our network group and allies supported Manchester Pride.

"Me and the wider EDI team are committed to full inclusivity for our LGBT+ staff and University wide activities such as participating in Manchester Pride are just one of the ways we can do this.  It was so good to learn we had collaborated with the University of Salford and I loved seeing the LGBT+ flag dotted around various Zoom screens.  Our vision is to build an inclusive organisation where our diverse community of staff can be themselves and our interim EDI strategy further outlines our commitment to LGBT+ equality.

"We have lots more to do in this space and I am looking forward to seeing our progress."

But it’s not just during Manchester Pride where we can all support our LGBT Community.  There are plenty of resources and ideas on ALLOUT’s Pages including support, how to become an ally and training opportunities:

And if you work with students, then there’s a wealth of information on these pages:
