LEAP programme makes its 1,000th fellowship award

18 Jun 2021

More than 1,000 staff and students have been awarded an AdvanceHE Teaching Fellowship through our University’s LEAP scheme

Judy Williams

June marked a momentous milestone for our Leadership in Education Awards Programme (LEAP) which has now awarded over 1,000 Advance HE Fellowships to colleagues and students.

As the LEAP programme goes from strength to strength, students, colleagues and external partners continue to demonstrate commitment to enhancing the student experience and delivering excellence in teaching and learning at all levels across the institution. Amidst the upheaval of the Coronavirus pandemic, we are thrilled that the programme continues to act as a springboard for teaching and learning practitioners.

On reaching this milestone, Professor April McMahon, Vice-President Teaching, Learning and Students said: “I am delighted that our LEAP scheme has 'leapt' past 1,000 Advance HE Fellowships. The fact that 1,000 of our staff and students have invested in their development and in improving our teaching and learning together is a wonderful cause for celebration!

"Congratulations to everyone who has made a case for Fellowship, or supported, assessed and mentored those coming forward. Thanks to you, we have 1000 more reasons to be cheerful about the future of teaching at Manchester.”

Professor Judy Williams, Associate Vice-President Teaching, Learning and Students, Institute of Teaching and Learning Director, and Academic Lead for LEAP echoes this: “I am delighted to have been able to award our 1,000th Fellowship through LEAP. Each application excites me and is full of care, passion and innovation – whether from colleagues embarking on their teaching journey, undergraduate students reflecting on enhancing peer mentoring, or senior colleagues evidencing their leadership and teaching excellence.

"I am so grateful to the programme team and army of mentors and assessors who dedicate their time. Without you this achievement would not have been possible.”

Accredited by AdvanceHE, the LEAP programme awards Associate, Fellow, Senior and Principal AdvanceHE fellowships and supports colleagues in evidencing their teaching and learning excellence enabling them to receive a formal national teaching award. LEAP is open to all staff, ranging from colleagues who are beginning to support students in their learning, those for whom teaching and learning forms part of their role and colleagues who are influencing teaching and learning at an institutional, national or international context.

For colleagues registered on the programme, the next submission date is 15 July 2021.
