Catering guidance

28 Apr 2016

Diana Hampson, Director of Estates and Facilities, answers your questions in response to the recent publication of guidelines for catering on campus

Following the recent publication of Guidelines for catering on campus, a number of questions have arisen about food being brought into the University to share with colleagues.

When food is being paid for by University funds then the University catering team or the suppliers listed in the guidelines should be adhered to without exception.

However, when food is brought in as a treat to share with colleagues or to support a charity event, such as a cake sale, it is acceptable to source food or ingredients from elsewhere, provided that the person donating the food receives no personal payment and that a common sense approach is taken so that hot, reheated food or food which quickly spoils at room temperature is avoided.

When you bring in homemade cakes or similar foods, you should ensure that those enjoying the food are fully aware of all the ingredients to prevent any allergy or dietary concerns. All food should be cleared up afterwards and stored appropriately.

Should you have any further queries relating to bringing in food, please do not hesitate to contact Alison Shedlock, Head of Hospitality and Events, at:
