Technology refresh due for the MyManchester Platform

What is changing?

IT Services are currently refreshing the technology stack that underpins the University’s MyManchester Platform.

Why are they doing this?

The current technology underpinning MyManchester (based on a product called Sitecore) is out of support and no longer sustainable as a long-term solution due to reliance on external knowledge and skills.

What does the new solution entail?

The system is being re-architected and developed internally using technologies (e.g. Javascript) that can be fully supported and extended by existing IT staff.

How is the library supporting this work?

The digital development and digital services teams have been supporting the project through reviewing system requirements, advising on integration, testing and accessibility and through co-authoring test plans. The library also provides membership to the MyManchester engagement and development group.

When will it be live?

The exact release date is still to be agreed but it’s expected to be in June or July.

What will the impact be for the library?

There will be no direct impact, the My Library functionality will remain exactly as it is in the current version although the change in technology should make it easier to develop new library-related functionality within the platform in the future.

What about non-library functionality?

The new release will also contain My Profile, My Financials in addition to the core site, home page and related links and navigation options.

How can I find out more information?
