Academic Staff Development Programme

The Academic Staff Development Programme ensures that all those contributing to Faculty programmes can engage with sound pedagogy and share best practice in teaching, learning and student experience. It provides training and development opportunities to support you through the different stages of your academic career.

Everything we do is informed by our ethos, which includes ‘transformative teaching and learning’, ‘co-creation’ and creating a ‘community of practice’. Our aim is to ensure that the drive towards excellent teaching and learning within the Faculty and the wider University is enhanced; seeking to support the development of effective teaching and learning strategies whatever the modality.

Academic and Research Skills

Our online research integrity course is mandatory for all research active staff at the University. The course will ensure that researchers understand their professional responsibilities and also provides practical advice on dealing with the complex issues that can arise while planning, conducting and reporting your research.

All staff involved in research are required to complete the University's Understanding Export Controls online training to ensure that you are aware of your export control obligations and the University's Export Control Policy.

PGR Supervisor Training and Recognition

Supervisor Recognition

The UK Council for Graduate Education (UKCGE), the independent representative body for postgraduate education in the UK, has recently launched a Research Supervision Recognition Programme. This is a professional development toolkit which includes the sector approved good supervisory practice framework and offers a route to recognition, specifically for research supervision. Becoming a UKCGE Recognised Research Supervisor, demonstrates to your university, peers and candidates that your supervisory practice has been recognised by a national body.

Alongside these workshops, you also have access to the New Academics and Fellows Programme to enable you to create a bespoke training package that meets your needs. For Leading, Managing and Supervising at UoM please see the SLD Learning Pathways webpages.
