New Technology Platforms structure launched in FBMH
28 Aug 2025
New structure represents a key milestone in the Faculty’s Technical Review project.
On 1 August 2025, the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health reached a key milestone in the review of its Technical Services provision with the implementation of a new structure for colleagues in the Faculty’s Technology Platforms.
This new organisational design focusses on ensuring that the Faculty delivers outstanding scientific services delivered by our highly experienced technical teams in collaboration with academic colleagues. The new design has been created with a view to providing clearer role definitions, with job descriptions allowing for colleagues to identify career pathways both within the Technology Platforms and more widely across the institution. Job descriptions have been aligned with the University’s defined roles and responsibilities for the provision of excellent services by technical teams across the three faculties.
Project Lead and FBMH Head of Technical Operations, Dr Michelle Jackson said: “This change marks the beginning of a fresh chapter, with a new line management structure that aims to enhance our collaboration, efficiency, and overall success. The design aligns with our vision for the Technology Platforms which is to provide outstanding technical expertise in support of the delivery of impactful, globally recognised biomedical science.”
Dr Jackson and Project Sponsors, FBMH Deputy Dean, Professor Allan Pacey and Executive Director of Faculty Operations, Dr Beth Micakovic, would like to offer their sincere thanks to all colleagues within the Technology Platforms and the Project Team for their contributions and dedication throughout this phase of the project.
The Faculty’s Technical Review project seeks to ensure that the Service is equipped to effectively support and future-proof the Faculty’s evolving teaching and research needs. The next phase of the project is now focussed on research and teaching technical activities outside of the Technology Platforms. The project team is working to map out the services technical staff currently provide and plan to invite technical staff, academics and students to review these services and input into how we can shape them to meet future needs.
