Extraordinary Senate Election 2022: deadline extended

23 Nov 2022

Deadline for nominations for the Faculties of Biology, Medicine and Health and Science and Engineering has now been extended to Tuesday, 29 November at 12 noon

Aerial view

The initial closing date has passed, and the number of nomination forms received does not equal the number of vacancies declared, in the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health and in the Faculty of Science and Engineering.  In accordance with Regulation 1.4 (extract below), the deadline for nominations for these two faculties has now been extended to Tuesday 29 November at 12 noon.

Extract from Regulation 1.4:

(d) if on the expiration of time for the receipt of nominations the number of valid nominations does not equal the number of vacancies declared, the Deputy Secretary shall inform the Returning Officer, who having declared elected those candidates already nominated, shall extend the time for receipt of nominations for the remaining vacancies by one further week.  If, after such time the number of valid nominations still does not equal the number of outstanding vacancies declared, then such vacancies will be held over to the following election.

(e) if on the expiration of the time for the receipt of nominations the number of nominations received exceeds the number of vacancies declared, the election shall be determined by secret ballot.

In the Faculty of Humanities, a ballot will be held, as the number of nominations received has exceeded the number of vacancies available, and therefore, no further nomination forms will be accepted from this Faculty.

Application process

We are using the mi-voice nominations platform, which allows candidates to work on their application, and, if necessary, save and come back to it at a later date, before submitting.

Candidates should check with their nominees if they are happy to support their applications, before adding their contact details to the form.

An email will then automatically be generated from the system to each nominator, asking them to confirm their support for the candidate.

The Governance Office will then receive notification once an application has been fully completed (including the biography), and both supporters have confirmed their support.

There is an option to add a photograph to your application, but this is not mandatory.

To confirm, the extended closing date for submissions from the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health and the Faculty of Science and Engineering (which includes confirmation of support from both supporters) is Tuesday, 29 November at 12 noon.
