Pharmacy, psychology, midwifery and plant biology were just a few examples of the Faculty stands that exhibited at the University’s second annual Community Festival.

The event attracted more than 2,000 visitors, with researchers, staff and students delivering over 40 interactive activities, across the University campus.

The day consisted of challenges, experiments and demonstrations, showcasing the research taking place across the University. Staff were on hand to answer questions such as ‘What are stem cells?’, ‘How do medicines get to the disease?’, ‘How does the body clock work?’ and much more.

Visitors had the opportunity to climb aboard a vintage ambulance, handle original medical artefacts spanning over 300 years from our Museum of Medicine and Health collection, have a go on the Helter Skelter, rock climbing wall and join the ‘snack and chat’ picnic.

Natalie Liddle, Festival Coordinator said, “The event provided the public with the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the research that the University does in a fun-filled family day, as well as allowing our researchers to share perspectives and be inspired by our local community.

“It was fantastic to welcome so many families, some of whom had never stepped inside a University before.  The support from staff was brilliant, the day came together so well with a real sense of team work amongst stallholders and volunteers.”
