Mental Health Awareness week image

This week is Mental Health Awareness week and the theme this year is anxiety. The Mental Health Foundation write that 'anxiety is a normal emotion but can sometimes get out of control and become a mental health problem.'

Our Employee Assistance Programme provides support to individuals and up to six sessions of counselling.

There are also a range of self-help information online:

• The Mental Health Foundation has provided some advice on dealing with anxiety - What can we do to cope with feelings of anxiety? | Mental Health Foundation

• Action for Happiness are running a webinar focusing on understanding our feeling and unhelpful thinking patterns on 24th May. Further details can be found here - Rewire Your Mind | Action for Happiness.

• Unmind’s recording of the webinar they ran this week on breaking the anxiety cycle can be found here. The webinar features Dr Claire Hayes, a clinical psychologist, who provides insights on anxiety and information on what can help.

• MIND are focusing specifically on the connection between mental health and money. There are support resources on their website.  We are running our own financial wellbeing webinar on Monday, 22 May with Clare Seal – book via the Training Catalogue.

Wellbeing Month

During May and, particularly during this week, our Wellbeing Champions, the Occupational Health Team, UoM Sport and the central Staff Wellbeing team have organised a range of activities and events to support good physical and mental wellbeing. There are still plenty of opportunities to take part over the next few days and into next week, including attending one of the health screenings sessions that have proved to be very popular this week.
