Dame Nancy visits South East Asia

The President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell, has begun a five-day visit to Singapore and Malaysia.

During her time in the region, Professor Rothwell will meet with key stakeholders in Malaysia and Singapore including government officials, research and industry leaders, alumni and representatives from the British High Commission.

In Singapore, the President will attend a dinner with many prominent Manchester alumni.  During the visit, Professor Rothwell will visit National University Singapore and Nanyang Technological University and hold meetings with various key research bodies including A*STAR.  She will also meet with University of Manchester students studying abroad in Singapore.

Professor Rothwell will deliver a talk on “Universities in the Modern Society” as part of the British High Commission’s Distinguished Visitor Lecture series in conjunction with Sir Paul Nurse, President of the Royal Society and holder of an honorary degree from the University of Manchester.

In Kuala Lumpur, Professor Rothwell will hold a formal dinner attended by many distinguished alumni and will meet with various key stakeholders.

Dame Nancy said: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to visit South East Asia in the new year.  The University of Manchester prides itself on being a truly international university. We have a long history of welcoming students from the region and this visit presents an invaluable opportunity to consolidate our links and to celebrate the success of our esteemed alumni."
