Pride entry is a prizewinner

30 Aug 2012

The University won ‘Best Public Sector’ entry in the Manchester Pride Parade on Saturday 25 August.

University entry in the Manchester Pride Parade

Although this was only the second time that the University had entered the Parade, the hard work and enthusiasm of all who took part produced a prizewinner which beat entries from more seasoned participants, including the Police Force, Salford City Council and the NHS.

More than 100 members of staff, students, their families and friends demonstrated the University’s commitment to equality and what an inclusive place it is in which to work, study and visit. The entry was dedicated to mathematician Alan Turing – a fitting tribute in his centenary.

The Parade attracted entries from more than 120 businesses, organisations and groups for its 1.3 mile journey around central Manchester, and thousands of spectators lined the streets to support one of the most popular parts of the Pride festivities.

The prize plate will be on display around campus over the coming months.

The LGBT Staff Network Group would like to thank everyone who participated and supported this project.

Plans are already under way for 2013, so if you would like to find out more:
