NEW! Drop-in Zumba class at the Sackville Street Building!

Get ready for the weekend with a new drop-in Zumba class every Friday (starting Friday 4 November) at the Sackville Street building (Floor H, Room 11). The class is open to all levels of fitness and abilities and will have you moving and shaking to the infectious rhythms and simplified dance patterns of Zumba! The class is just £3.50 per session and you will need to pay the instructor on arrival.

Run up a sweat with the new staff running group!

A new staff running group which has been set up in conjunction with Run England aims to get more people running, more often! The group will meet every Tuesday and Thursday (from 1 November) at 12 noon at the Denmark Road Sports Hall. The group is open to all levels and abilities and there will be short, medium and long routes for you to have a go at. Changing and shower facilities are available at the sports hall for a cost of £1.00 (lockers are an extra £1.00 which is refundable).

Dates confirmed for Umpire and Referee training courses

Become a referee or umpire and gain an official level 1 qualification by completing a 1 day course organised by SPORT Manchester. Open to both staff and students the following courses will be run at the Armitage Sports Centre in Fallowfield:

  • Netball Umpire C-Award training course on Sunday 13 November 2011 (10am – 4pm) cost £25.00
  • Basketball level 1 referee course on Saturday 19 November 2011 (10am – 2pm) cost £25.00
  • Hockey level 1 umpire course on Sunday 20 November 2011 (10am – 3pm) cost £30.00

To book onto one of the above courses, you will need to visit:

Be the first to cross the finish line at the Olympic stadium!

The National Lottery Olympic Park Run will take place on 31 March 2012 and you can now enter for a chance to take part and be one of the first people to cross the finish line in the Olympic stadium. 5,000 people will get the chance to take part in the five mile run which will traverse the Olympic Park and offer access across it on a scale not yet experienced by the public.

The National Lottery Olympic Park Run is open to anyone aged 16 or over, of any running ability. 

Ladies' five-a-side football team is recruiting members  

The MMU and The University of Manchester Ladies' five-a-side football team is looking for new members. The team plays every Tuesday from 5pm to 6pm at the Sugden Sports Centre and receives coaching once a month from an FA qualified coach. Open to all fitness and skill levels, the sessions cost £3.50 a week.
