Carter Sonata (1948)
Beethoven’s C-major Sonata can be seen as the first of his late period works, whilst Carter’s Sonata of 1948 introduces the rhythmic complexities that would become the hallmark of the composer’s mature style. These frame Webern’s Three Little Pieces, whichconcentrate expression and drama into the tiniest of spaces.
