One in Two podcast marks World Cancer Day

03 Feb 2023

To mark World Cancer Day, we have released a special episode of our cancer research podcast

World Cancer Day

Following the success of the first series of our cancer research podcast, One in Two, a special episode has been recorded to mark World Cancer Day on 4 February.

Professor of Cancer Sciences, Rob Bristow, Director of the Manchester Cancer Research Centre (MCRC) talks about his world leading prostate cancer research and delivering impact through internationalisation.

With one in two of us receiving a cancer diagnosis at some point during our lives, it has never been more important to improve the outcomes for people affected by cancer.

World Cancer Day offers the opportunity to reflect on the inspiring advancements in cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment that have been made and to identify the new and ongoing challenges that cancer presents globally, and to reinforce our commitment to investing in research and innovation that is continuing to deliver extraordinary breakthroughs in medicine, diagnostics, and scientific knowledge.

With our cancer researchers playing a leading role in the discoveries that are changing the cancer prevention, detection and treatment landscape, this new cancer research podcast series has been produced, looking with the researchers behind the discoveries, at how these contributions are changing lives and global understanding of the disease.

This special episode looks at the tumour microenvironment and the effect genomics and hypoxia has on prostate cancer as well as covering the broader cancer research environment in Manchester, the importance of teamwork and team science and research, and delivering impact through internationalisation.

As an international research focussed institution, the podcast considers the challenges and opportunities facing the future of cancer research and asks if globalisation is the key to unlocking future discoveries, highlighting how other global partnerships have yielded life changing discoveries across the cancer spectrum.

The One in Two podcast is produced in partnership with the Manchester Cancer Research Centre (MCRC).
