Complete our survey: before your move to internet phone calls with Teams Voice

If you have not yet completed our Teams Voice survey, or if you have a new starter in your team this year, we need to capture important details via our online form

Teams Voice

This will ensure that we can assign a phone number within Microsoft Teams Voice. This applies whether you currently have a phone number or not.

We are preparing for the national telecoms switchover to internet-based phone calling, when all copper wire landlines will cease to work.

Once you have Teams Voice you will be able to make external calls through Teams on your laptop, desktop, smartphone, or other device. Internal calls can continue to be made via Teams-to-Teams video calls.

When the change happens, existing landline phone handsets at the University will no longer work and will be removed as part of the project. The project will be ensuring that all phone equipment is disposed of correctly via the IT Services Recycling Facility.

Some of this data may already have been collected within your department – but this survey asks for some additional key information about your role, so please do complete it.

This switchover is being managed by the External Calling (Teams Voice) Project.

Who will receive Teams Voice? *

  • If you are based in the UK and have a staff Microsoft 365 licence, your external phone calls will move to Teams Voice.
  • Where possible, you will retain your existing University phone number. If you do not have a University phone number, you will be given one.
  • Please note the roll-out is only making changes in buildings where phone lines are provided by the University.
  • If for any reason you would like to opt out of receiving a phone number, please do get in touch with the project at Teams.Voice@manchester.ac.uk.

When will this change happen?

The roll-out will be gradual, based on phone number order and will begin in late February.

To support you with the changes taking place you can book onto one of two online Teams Voice training sessions:

For those that cannot make these dates there will be a further session to run later in the year on a Wednesday afternoon and a recording will be made available, to include BSL and closed captioning.
