Working well together

12 Oct 2022

A message from Vice-Presidents for Research and Teaching, Professors Colette Fagan and April McMahon

University of Manchester

Dear colleagues,

Today we are launching Statements of Contribution for Research and Teaching, to help both our University and academic community achieve their ambitions

The Research statement has been refreshed since its first iteration in 2015, while the Teaching statement is brand new.

The statements – agreed through consultation with Faculty Leadership Teams and Senate and part of the University strategic plan – are designed to help us to do our jobs well.

We are a research powerhouse with a history of world-changing achievements, where academic values are cherished, great ideas are born, and research makes a real difference. You are at the heart of our research success

We aspire to the highest academic standards. Your work as teachers, particularly during and since the extremely challenging pandemic, is helping us to achieve our vision – to provide education for global leadership and exceptional student experiences where teaching makes a real difference to our students’ lives and equips them to make a difference in the world.

The statements explain what the University expects of you, our academic community and the colleagues who support you – and also what you can expect from the University.

They provide the clarity and vision to further support you in your amazing work.

Please take the time to read the statement or statements that apply to you at the links below.

Many thanks for this and for all your incredible work.

Kindest regards,

Vice-President for Research, Professor Colette Fagan

Vice-President for Teaching, Learning and the Student Experience, Professor April McMahon
