Technical Skills Survey 2022 - deadline extended

15 Sep 2022

Our University's Skills and Development Team launched the Technical Skills Survey in August 2022. Take part for a chance to win a £50 Amazon voucher and give your thoughts on creating development opportunities for technical staff.

The Skills and Development Team have extended the closing date for the survey to midnight on Friday 23rd September. This provides those returning from Summer breaks an opportunity to participate.

We encourage all technical staff to complete the Technical Skills Survey. Your participation will help demonstrate a combined commitment to raising our technical profile and recognition for the contributions we make to teaching and research. Plus, we still have two more vouchers to win.

All technical staff should have received an email from the National Technician Development Centre with a personal link inviting them to participate in the survey. A reminder will be sent each Monday to those who haven’t completed their submission. If you haven’t received an email, check your Spam folder first, then email: technician.commitment@manchester.ac.uk

Please use this opportunity to have your say and help our team create development opportunities in the coming months.

This survey is dedicated to technical staff and is designed to gather essential information about their skills and experience, career aspirations and development needs. Our aim is to design and develop a range of activities to support the creation of a sustainable technical service across our University and the survey will help and inform this work.

The survey will be undertaken online in partnership with the National Technician Development Centre (NTDC) team.

Last year NTDC produced a summary report that indicates that many technical staff have grown into or developed roles without receiving dedicated or specific training. An aspiration of our skills survey is to review and address this, to develop collective and individual training plans and build a skills catalogue that meets the needs of both our technical staff and our University.

The NTDC survey, which has been run several times across similar institutions, has been tailored to our University's structures and staff, and contains over 3700 relevant defined skills. General information relating to the survey is available on the NTDC's website. Further details along with FAQs will be published on Manchester’s Technical Commitment website.

Manchester’s Technical Commitment Leadership Team (MTCLT) and the Workforce Planning and Talent team are pleased to be working in partnership with NTDC on this survey. The results will create increased visibility, recognition and development opportunities for our technical staff, as well as a range of  benefits for our University.
