It's Women's Health Week 8-14 May 2022!

This week is a perfect time to talk about the menopause

Talking about the menopause

Our University recently announced that we are ‘Committed to being a Menopause Friendly Employer’. Our aim is that within the next 12 months we achieve ‘Accredited Menopause Friendly Employer’ status.

The Menopause Friendly Accreditation is a recognised acknowledgement, by a highly qualified independent panel of judges, that an organisation is offering the right awareness, education and support.

The aim of this work is:

  • To change mindsets and attitudes towards menopause. Making it as easy to talk about as the weather.
  • Everyone to understand what menopause is and be able to talk about it openly. This isn’t just an issue for women, everyone needs to know so they can support colleagues, friends and family.
  • Those experiencing menopause symptoms to feel confident to discuss it and ask for support if they need it to continue being happy and successful at work.
  • Managers to understand menopause, to confidently have good conversations, and know how to help.

Adèle MacKinlay, Director of People and Organisational Development said:

"I firmly believe that creating an environment in which we can all bring our authentic selves to work, recognising that a transparent, open, and healthy workplace is more engaging for all and contributes to greater organisational success."

Our menopause resources page has a link to the Women’s Wellbeing Week page with new content around getting help and support from GPs and HRT shortages plus links around the recent Davina McCall documentary, Sex, Myths and the Menopause.

Over the coming months there will be more information shared around menopause and opportunities to attend events and provide feedback. If you would like to be alerted to menopause related news stories please email and you can be added to a menopause mailing list.
