Alchemy at The Manchester Museum presents

30 May 2007

Ilana Halperin: 'Caves'

Tuesday 5 June, 6.30-8pm

As part of her Alchemy Fellowship, Ilana Halperin has been exploring dark confined spaces under metres of solid rock. Her guides to the underworld, Peter and Julie Mohr, will give an illuminated talk with images of one of the largest natural cave systems in the UK.

Peter Mohr has adapted a magic lantern to work with electricity, so we can see the spectacular images captured on glass slides for the first time. Curator of Palaeontology, David Gelsthorpe, will also lead a tour down to the bowels of the Museum to see the cave material, like remains from the last Ice Age, kept in the Museum storerooms.
