Event at MMU marking International Women's Day

Women Working Worldwide and Olive Co-operative would like to invite you to the following event marking International Women's Day:

Women and Ethical Trade Problems and Solutions for Women Workers in the Global Supply Chain

Thursday 8 March, 5.30pm - 7pm, in Lecture Theatre 4, Manton Building, Manchester Metropolitan University, Rosamond St West.

Speakers:

• Rachel English, Women Working Worldwide - MMU based organisation which works with an international network of women workers supporting the rights  of women working in international production chains - introduction to rights abuses suffered by women in global supply chains and work being done to tackle these abuses, as well as the meaning of the term ethical trade.
• Noemí Flores Rivas & Gladys Urtecho, MEC, CAWN - Nicaraguan Womens Movement, presenting first hand experiences of working in poor conditions in farms and factories that supply to the UK market.
• Jo Bird, Olive Co-operative - Manchester based co-operative which markets  fairly traded products from women's co-operatives in Palestine, describing how it is possible to run an ethical business that improves the lives of workers all the way down the supply chain, and giving examples of best  practice that can form part of the solution for labour rights abuses.
