Walking for Health group celebrates six years with Memory Walk

08 Sep 2016

The University’s Walking for Health group has been involved in numerous events during its existence and this month they're busy raising awareness and funds for two great charities

Walking for Health group

On Friday, 16 September there will be Memory Walk for the Alzheimer’s Society. People of all ages and abilities across the UK will be encouraged to join in, to walk together to celebrate loved ones affected by dementia, and raise money.  Dementia Friends, run by the Alzheimer’s Society, is also one of the University's Social Responsibility flagship programmes.

All are welcome to attend the Memory Walk. If you wish to go along just meet at noon at the arch in the John Owens front quad on 16 September. It should last 35-40 minutes.

The second event on Friday, 30 September has a number of the Lunchtime Strollers walking 10k from 6.30pm across Manchester on a “Culture Crawl” to raise funds for Maggie’s cancer centres that offer free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their families and friends. Manchester’s local Maggie’s centre is based at The Christie in a new building that opened in April this year.

It costs £590,000 a year to keep a Maggie's Centre open, and any monies donated will help Maggie's Centres continue to provide emotional, practical and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends.

The Lunchtime Strollers are keen to raise awareness of these causes and hope you can join them on the Memory Walk on the 16/9 or support one or both events with donations via the JustGiving links:
