Martin Harris Centre autumn season launched

See an exceptional programme of performances at the Martin Harris Centre for Music and Drama this autumn.

We have have a rich variety of music, drama, literature and dance events planned for you this season. 

Season Highlights:

  • In September we welcome Music Director of the Hallé, Sir Mark Elder CBE to the Centre to give his inaugural lecture as Honorary Professor at the University, entitled Are Conductors Really Necessary?
  • Manchester based actor and University drama alumnus Rob Ward returns to the Centre in autumn with his new play Gypsy Queen.
  • Our resident string quartet, the Quatuor Danel begins its twelfth season at the University this autumn. Feast your ears, as it will be a particularly challenging, yet adventurous season for the quartet.
  • In October we will be hosting several events in partnership with the Centre for New Writing and Manchester Literature Festival. This autumn we welcome brilliant young Irish novelist Eimear McBride and one of the greatest living English-language poets, Michael Longley.
  • In November we host the Inaugural Lord Morris of Manchester Memorial Lecture. This will feature a performance by Chamber Choir Ad Solem and reflection from University Chancellor and poet Lemn Sissay.
  • The ever popular Walter Carroll Lunchtime Concert Series continues with a varied and diverse programme. Lunchtime concerts take place on Thursdays and begin at 1.10pm. The concerts are free and there’s no need to book, so you can just turn up on the day and enjoy the music!
  • Philip Grange, Professor of Composition at the University, celebrates his 60th birthday in 2016. The Centre will host a celebratory concert with internationally acclaimed ensemble Gemini in December and will feature his music across the 2016/17 season.
