IT Services notice: Cryptowall Ransom malware

IT Services have issued a warning about a recent rise in incidences of malware on campus.

We have seen a sharp rise in the number of instances of "Ransom" based malware on campus.

This is being delivered by email as an attachment within a Zip File and could render files inaccessible and unrecoverable.

The e-mail containing the ransomware should contain a warning to this effect and attachments on such e-mail should not be opened under any circumstances.

Users should just delete the message.

Please take extra caution when opening files from unknown source and ensure files are scanned by AntiVirus software prior to opening.

AntiVirus software will NOT detect this ransomware, however scanning attachments is good practise
