Vanessa was was nominated by colleagues for her work in revitalising our Workplace Giving Scheme over the past 12 months. University staff are now donating nearly £10,000 per month from their pay to causes that are important to them – an increase of nearly 130% since October 2014.

The National Payroll Giving Excellence Awards ceremony took place on 17 November at the House of Lords and celebrated the efforts of employers, charities and professional partnerships in promoting regular tax-efficient giving from salary in the workplace.

Rob Wilson MP, Minister for Civil Society, and Damien Hinds, Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury, presented awards and pledged commitment to the scheme as a valued sustainable income for charities.

Judges commented that they were again this year proud of the high calibre of entries received and the imaginative approaches taken by companies, fundraising organisations and agencies to create effective and inspiring promotions to engage employees in charitable giving.

Dr Julian Skyrme, Director of Social Responsibility, said: "It is very fitting that Vanessa has received this national recognition. She has been instrumental in taking forward the University's aim of making giving to charity more efficient and effective through our new payroll giving scheme."
