Recognised management qualifications for existing and aspiring managers

The Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) is the UK’s largest management body, offering three different levels to suit current and future team leaders, first line managers and middle managers

aYou may currently be a team leader/manager or aspire to become one. ILM qualifications are designed to unlock the potential of real people in real situations.

For Team Leaders (Grade 2/3/4)

The ILM level 2 award and certificate in Leadership and Team Skills is aimed at practicing team leaders who wish to become more confident and effective in their role.  The award runs over 5 months with those people who wish to go on to complete a certificate requiring attendance over around one year.

For First Line Managers (Grade 3/4/5/6)

The ILM level 3 award and certificate in Leadership and Management is aimed at practicing first line managers who are serious about developing their abilities and who wish to become more confident and effective in their role.  The award runs over 5 months with those people who wish to go on to complete a certificate requiring attendance over around one year.

For Middle Managers (Grade 6 upwards)

Action Focused Leadership Programme

The Action Focused Leadership Programme (ILM level 5 award) is aimed at middle managers who want to improve their ability to lead in a particular work context.  Effective leadership in context requires a sound understanding of organisational culture and decision-making, an understanding of how best to motivate staff taking account of organisational culture and also a sound understanding of your own leadership preferences, strengths and weaknesses.

The course which runs over half a year is designed to be action-oriented with participants actively undertaking work based research and presenting results back to fellow group members.
