Chinese New Year's workshops in aid of I CAN

18 Mar 2015

Manchester holds one of Europe’s biggest Chinese New Year celebrations, drawing around 90,000 visitors into the city centre

Chinese New Year workships

New partnerships enabled the Confucius Institute to be involved in more Chinese New Year events in and around Manchester, than ever before.

Our team of skilled volunteers helped to spread the New Year cheer in community libraries, local businesses, the Trafford Centre and main city centre locations. Not only were shoppers encouraged to try their hand on calligraphy, paper folding and mandarin, but they had also the opportunity to witness a traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony, Chinese folk music and learn about what courses the Confucius Institute has to offer. These events helped us to interact with thousands of people who will have gained a deeper understanding of the Chinese New Year, one of the most important dates in the Chinese calendar, as well as familiarising themselves with a selection of traditional Chinese cultural practices.

All teachers volunteered their time and talent with great energy and helped us raise £464.63 which has been donated to I CAN, in support of the children’s communication charity that helps children develop their speech and language skills.
