Take the opportunity to remember those who have been diagnosed with HIV – and raise money for this cause

World AIDS Day is celebrated on 1 December every year: not only does it give people the opportunity to remember those who have been diagnosed with HIV, but it also gives people the opportunity to raise money for this cause.

It is vital that charities and working groups receive sufficient funding to ensure that advances are made to find a cure for HIV, to keep raising awareness about the transmission and to fund testing and treatment.

This year we have more boxes at FoodOnCampus outlets and the Students’ Union where you can obtain your red ribbon and show support for the world’s struggle in combatting HIV and AIDS. There are approximately 35 million people worldwide living with HIV/AIDS – of these, 3.2 million were children (<15 years old). An estimated 2.1 million individuals worldwide became newly infected with HIV in 2013 - this includes over 240,000 children (<15 years). 19 million of the 35 million people living with HIV today do not know that they have the virus. We’re encouraging people to buy a red ribbon to support this cause and beat last year’s donation amount of £325.
