Your hands could save a loved one’s life

14 Oct 2014

That is the theme of this year’s European Restart a Heart Day on Thursday, 16 October 2014

The Resuscitation Council (UK) has combined forces with production company UNIT9, to develop Lifesaver – a revolutionary new way to learn CPR. In support of Restart a Heart Day 2014, the University is making this online training resource available to all staff and students.

Teaching staff and students CPR and how to use an AED has the potential to save numerous lives.

Lifesaver focuses on those CPR skills most likely to save a life:

  • Recognizing cardiac arrest
  • Calling for help
  • Starting chest compressions
  • Giving rescue breaths if able to do so
  • Using an AED (automated external defibrillator) located across the campus

The target for the University’s Lifesaver project is to have 999 staff and 999 students to have accessed this training by 12 December 2014. Please help us make this happen!

Feedback

Here is some feedback from staff who have already taken part;

  • “Just wanted to say how brilliant I think the Lifesaver site is – I’ve just done mine and thought it was great. The real life situations were excellent to give a sense of what it might actually feel like, and I particularly like the ‘against the clock’ element…again to make you realise how quickly you have to make decisions and/or act.”
    Katy Young, Sport Development Co-ordinator

  • “Pretty cool training medium if you ask me.”
    Richard Carr; Third Party Services & Communications Officer, Association of University Administrators

  • “... powerful stuff - emotionally engaging for a deeper level learning experience. Even though I scored ‘excellent’, I will definitely be trying to improve my score in the future. I’ll definitely be encouraging colleagues to ‘engage’.”
    Professor Colin Hughes, School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences
