New peer support group for carers

24 Jul 2014

Venue booked for first meeting to assess need for support

There are possibly many members of staff around the University who are, or have been, suddenly facing combining caring for elderly or infirm parents or other relatives with working full-time.

The Equality and Diversity Unit have been asked to look at the possibility of supporting a network of people at the university who may fall into the category and benefit from some mutual support. Sometimes, just talking to someone who’s been through similar circumstances can help alleviate the stress enormously.

Interested parties are invited to the first meeting – at A202 Samuel Alexander Building on Thursday 31 July (12.30-1.30pm) – where the Unit can gather ideas and gauge interest and relevance, investigating whether there is a demand for this type of group at the University, any potential barriers, and the different areas of support that might be required for staff.

If there is enough interest, this group will look to meet regularly and act as a network sharing ideas and experiences, contributing to the development of the group and ensuring there is a solid network to support anyone at the University.
