Sexual assaults near University campus

Staff may have seen reports in the media that a 14-year-old boy has been charged in connection with a number of sexual assaults near to the University campus.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Manchester City Magistrates Court this morning (Monday, 21 October) and pleaded guilty to five counts of sexual assault on five different women. He was given conditional bail and the case was adjourned until December 2.

The charges related to five reports of sexual assault, including three from women who were sexually assaulted near to the University between Saturday 21 September and Saturday 5 October.

An 18-year-old man also arrested in connection with these incidents has been bailed until 20 November pending further enquiries.

The University is working closely with Greater Manchester Police. Any member of staff with information relating to these incidents can call the police on 101.
