The 15th Annual Students as Partners (SaP) Celebration Evening, took place at The Palace Hotel on 2nd May with over 400 students and staff attending the event.

In an opportunity to recognise and reward many of the 1,700 students involved in Peer Support, Professor Matthew Jefferies (Assistant Associate Dean, Faculty of Humanities) acknowledged the huge commitment of Peer Assisted Study Session (PASS) Leaders, Peer Mentors and Student/Staff Coordinators and the significant value placed on their voluntary endeavours by the University.

'Outstanding Contribution to Peer Support' Awards were presented to a select group of 27 students and staff who had clearly demonstrated innovation and dedication in their wide ranging roles and activities.  A particular highlight was the acknowledgement of 'Scheme of the Year', which was awarded to Chemical Engineering and Analytical Sciences PASS and Linguistics and English Language Peer Mentoring.

Other presentations included the 'Presidents Prize' for high achieving Junior Common Room/Residents’ Associations, the 'Student Team Working Awards' and over 100 students received certificates following their completion of the 'Personal Development and Effectiveness Training' course.

A ‘roaming camera’ provided the chance for current PASS Leaders, Peer Mentors and Student/Staff Coordinators to share their experiences of Peer Support and how it has impacted them and their students.  Unable to attend, one of the SaP programme’s most committed students, Meaghan Couture, provided a contribution through a video from the United States to congratulate those who had participated in a series of Student Consultations.

Thanks were given to everyone who contributed to the hugely successful event.
