International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO)

The University of Manchester will be proudly flying the Rainbow flag to mark IDAHO on Friday, 17 May.
Since 2005, 17 May has been dedicated to IDAHO, marking the day in 1990 when the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from its list of mental disorders.
IDAHO unites millions of people all over the world in an unprecedented show of solidarity in support of upholding human rights for all. Homosexuality is still illegal in around 80 countries in the world, with penalties including forced labour, life imprisonment and death.

Karen Heaton, Director of HR and LGBT Champion, says: "By flying the rainbow flag on this symbolic day, the University is showing its commitment to being an inclusive place of work and study."
