John Rylands Next Chapter update

25 Jan 2024

We're working to improve our exhibition and event spaces

Work to start phase one of the John Rylands Next Chapter project begins on Monday, 5 February. As outlined at December’s All-Staff Meeting, phase one will:

  • Transform the former café area into a flexible event space;
  • Create a new modern entrance, reception and retail area;
  • Convert the French Revolution Room into a new Imaging Lab.

While the work takes place, there will be an impact on staff space and service delivery:

  • Ground floor café space closed;
  • Limited space for meetings and events;
  • Temporary changes to some staff workspace;
  • No hot-desk space for non-CP staff;
  • Reduced availability of space for teaching.

Regular updates on the project will be included in Library Update and also on the John Rylands Next Chapter intranet site. You can also see what we are saying to Rylands visitors on the John Rylands Institute and Library website.

For any questions about the project, please contact uml.rylandsnextchapter@manchester.ac.uk.
