Brethren and Their Buildings book launch event

28 Jun 2022

The John Rylands Research Institute and Library would like to invite you to an exciting book launch event on Thursday, 21 July 2022 5pm-7pm

Tim Grass's book Brethren and Their Buildings explores in detail the surprising variety of places of worship used by all sections of the Brethren movement in Britain and Ireland, from impressive Gospel halls on prominent sites to self-effacing back-street rooms. Tim will introduce these in this fascinating presentation. He will talk about how and why he set about compiling this book, and the contribution of the University of Manchester’s Christian Brethren Archive, the world’s largest and most significant collection of Brethren material, to his research.

Tim Grass is a historian based on the Isle of Man, who specializes in modern British religious movements. His books include "Gathering to His Name: The Story of Open Brethren in Britain and Ireland" (2006); "SCM Core Text: Modern Church History" (2008); "F. F. Bruce: A Life" (2011); and "The Lord's Work: A History of the Catholic Apostolic Church" (2017). Tim is a past president of the Chapels Society, and a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.

This is the first Brethren event at Rylands in over a decade and we are hoping to make it a really special occasion.
