Festival event explores Cancer Research UK’s Grand Challenge

07 Oct 2015

How would you use £20 million to beat cancer sooner?

A Manchester Science Festival event will ask: how would you use £20 million to beat cancer sooner?

The Grand Challenge is Cancer Research UK’s ‘X Prize’, an unprecedented pot of funding available to break down the barriers that stand in the way of progress to beat cancer sooner.

The first award will be made next year, and this event is your chance to get a sneak preview of the ground-breaking scientific areas where the money might be spent.

Hear from the Grand Challenge team and the people who have helped to choose the science that needs the money most. Explore these areas through interactive activities supported by University scientists, before an interactive debate on whether everyone should have a say in how CRUK spends its money. One in two of us will develop cancer in our lifetime. Is research funding best left to the experts, or should this be a democratic process?

Join us and have your say.
