Flexible and hybrid working
Colleagues can apply for flexible working from day one of their employment and are welcome to ask about flexible working opportunities during the recruitment process.
The Library supports a wide range of flexible working opportunties including job shares, part-time working and term-time only working.
Hybrid working across Professional Services was successfully trialled between June 2021 and August 2022. During this period, the project board reviewed and refined the University's approach to hybrid working, taking into account extensive feedback from a wide range of colleagues and a new framework is now in place:

Quick guide
The Library has a quick guide to help understand the processes required for those considering flexible or hybrid working.
Request a change of hours of work (minor)
- Example – Instead of standard 9am-5pm, working within 8am-6pm window, with no change in total hours worked each week
- Agree locally in discussion with line manager
Request a change of job pattern
- Example – regular compressed-hours pattern but no change in total hours worked overall
- Agree locally (DMT approval)
- Formal flexible Working Request submitted to uml.hr@manchester.ac.uk
Request a change of hours

Request for hybrid work pattern
- The University has a Hybrid Working Framework
- Requests outside of the agreed hybrid pattern for specific roles will require DMT approval and a Formal Flexible Working Request to be submitted to uml.hr@manchester.ac.uk
Request to work remotely
- Library roles are not generally eligible for remote working
- Requests for remote working to be considered by DMTs and will require a Formal flexible Working Request to be submitted to uml.hr@manchester.ac.uk
