Essential courses for all colleagues

All Library staff members are required to complete a series of online training courses designed to embed the University's values and foster a working environment aligned with those values. These courses should be prioritised and completed during the induction period for all new starters. Given the importance of the content, everyone will be asked to periodically review and complete these courses. 

Depending on the type of contract you have there are different sets of courses that you will need to complete:

The 9 essential courses required for a member of staff on a full time contract are: 

  • Health & Safety (15 mins);
  • Fire Awareness for All (5 mins);
  • Office Safety at the University of Manchester (30 mins);
  • Data Protection & Cyber Security (30 mins);
  • Diversity in the Workplace (45 mins);
  • Unconscious Bias (45 mins);
  • Disability Equity (30 mins);
  • Sexual Harassment (20 mins);
  • AI at The University of Manchester (20 mins) - NEW.

The 6 essential courses required for a member of staff on a casual/atypical contract are: 

  • Health and Safety at The University of Manchester (15 mins);
  • Fire Awareness for all (5 mins);
  • Office Safety at The University of Manchester (30 mins); 
  • Data Protection and Cyber Security (30 mins); 
  • Diversity in the Workplace (45 mins);
  • Sexual Harassment (20 mins).

All the above Essential Courses for all colleagues are available available through the University’s online learning platform, Canvas.

In addition to these courses there will be further training for specific roles. Please refer to your induction plan or departmental training plans for details of any additional mandatory training for your role.
